Andrew P. Cherok, Jr. (93) of Penn Hills, was called to eternal life on November 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of 64 years to the late Dorothy L. (Yanicko) Cherok, who was called to eternal life on May 4, 2015. Andy was born June 27, 1924 in Verona to late Andrew P. and Anna (Hanus) Cherok, Sr., He has lived in Penn Hills for the past 66 years. He worked for Conrail for over 40 years as a payroll clerk. He was a member of St. John the Baptist R. C. Church, Plum. Andy served his country during WWII in the US Army achieving the rank of Staff Sargent. During his service time he saw action in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and the Ardennes. He was awarded the Purple Heart with one Oak Cluster. Andy enjoyed caring for his yard, traveling, his two favorite cats Alex and Yassna, but most of all spending time with his loving family.
Survivors include his children Kathy (Ronald) Skornicka, Dennis (Suzanne) Cherok, Maureen (Glenn) Lackey and Maribeth (Shane) Chessey, grandchildren Denise (David) Volkov, Bryan (Andrea) Skornicka, Holly Cherok, Phillip (Maggie) Cherok and Michael Chessey, great-grandchildren Sydney Rose and Cadence Susan, his brother Thomas (Cheran) Cherok, and will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and their children. The family wants to thank Vitas Hospice for all his exceptional care and his second family, all the wait staff at Eat-n-Park, Penn Hills.
Besides his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by his grandson, Colby M. Chessey, his brothers Michael, John and Charles Cherok and his sister Eleanor Kozera.
Friends received Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at MAURICE L. KNEE, LTD. FUNERAL HOME 7663 Saltsburg Rd. (across from S & T Bank) Plum, PA 15239, where parting prayers will be conducted Tuesday 9:15 AM, Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, with the Rev. Kevin G. Poecking, officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors, next to his wife Dorothy in Plum Creek Cemetery. His arrangements were entrusted to his nephew William A.
