James A. McCaskey, 72 of West Deer Township, died peacefully August 4, 2016 at UPMC-St. Margaret's, surrounded by his family. He was born February 13, 1944 in Natrona Heights to the late John Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Hickman) McCaskey. Jim grew up in Creighton graduating from East Deer-Frazer High School in 1962. Jim served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a printer for J&L Steel, then for Johnston Business Forms in Tarentum until he retired in 1980. Jim served as a West Deer Township Supervisor from 1986 to 1994 and then was elected West Deer Township Manager serving from 1994 to 2000. He was a Life Member of West Deer VFD #2, serving as president for over 25 years, member of the American Legion in West Deer, the Friday night and Tuesday morning golf leagues at Rose Ridge Golf Course, and he also bowled in the Tavern League on Friday nights at Deer Lakes Bowl. He was on the Deer Lakes Youth Baseball and Basketball Boards. He enjoyed golf -- achieving a hole in one on Hole #8 at the Deer Run Golf Club in 2004. He also enjoyed watching Pittsburgh sports and, above all, spending time with his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol A. (Reyer) McCaskey, daughter Stacey L. Hollibaugh of West Deer and his son James F. (Victoria) McCaskey of Frazer Township, grandchildren Brittany (Jake) Eckberg, Rebecca Hollibaugh, Jacob McCaskey, Julia Hollibaugh, Anna McCaskey, Jack Hollibaugh and Ty McCaskey and great-granddaughter Madison Eckberg.
Friends will be received Saturday from 6-8 pm and on Sunday from 1-8 pm in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer. The family asks those attending the funeral service on Monday to meet at the East Union Presbyterian Church, 292 East Union Road, Cheswick, PA in West Deer Township at 11 am with the Rev. James Ramsey, officiating. He will be laid to rest in East Union Cemetery, West Deer Township. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent in Jim's name to The West Deer D.A.R.
