James J. Holfelder, 78 of Dorseyville, Indiana Township, died Friday May 25, 2018 at UPMC-Shadyside, of complications of a surgical procedure. He was born March 25, 1940 in Pittsburgh to the late Frank J. and Hazel P. (Merryman) Holfelder. Jim has lived in Dorseyville for the last 52 years. A welder by trade, Jim worked for Blawnox Steel in the Equipment division for over 30 years and simultaneously for Casey Equipment for over 10 years. He also worked for Fox Chapel Borough on the Road Crew for 19 years. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Dorseyville and the Owl’s Club in Russellton. Jim enjoyed hunting, gardening, yard work and helping fix anything for anyone who would ask.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Irene R. (Cassano) Holfelder, his grandsons David J. Kennedy, Jr. of Glenshaw and Samuel J. Kennedy of Curtisville, his son-in-law Douglas R. Bertha, Sr. of Curtisville, his step-great-grandchildren Gillian T. Bertha and Eliana B. Belschner.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Terry L. Bertha and her first husband David J. Kennedy, Sr, his brothers Frank and William Holfelder, his sister Mazie Sauerwein and his step-grandchildren Douglas R. Bertha, Jr, Justin M. Bertha and Stacey L. Bertha.
At Jim’s request the family met for a private graveside service in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana Township, where he was laid to rest near his daughter.
