Raymond Newcomer Obituary

Raymond H. Newcomer, 83 of Russellton, West Deer Township, died Thursday March 15, 2018, at Concordia at Rebecca Residence, where he has resided for the past two years, with his family by his side. He was born January 27, 1935 in Johnstown to the late John H. and Julia H. (Starcosky) Newcomer. He was a 1954 graduate of Westmont High School. Ray has lived in Russellton since 1960. Ray was a section foreman in the coal mines, working for the Republic Steel-LTV mine in Russellton for over 35 years, then over 5 years at Pittsburgh Thermal, North Side as a maintenance worker. He served his country in the Naval Reserves, serving for 8 years achieving a rank of Engineman 3rd Class. A member of Transfiguration R.C. Church, Russellton, the Knights of Columbus, Council 5501, Russellton, where he served as financial secretary for many years and was Past Grand Knight. He also was a member of the Fourth Degree Queen of Angels Assembly in Wexford. He enjoyed golf, doing handyman work, carpentry, gardening but especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife, whom he married April 28, 1956; Janet L. (Herdman) Newcomer, his daughters Christine A. (William) Rucinski of Library and Patricia L. (Edward) Hamorsky of Knoxville, TN and his son Raymond J. “Buddy” (Dr. Janet) Newcomer of Indiana Township, 4 grandchildren Julie (Daniel) Hayden, Jared Scholl, Lori Scholl and David J. Newcomer, his great-granddaughter Melanie, his sister-in-law Mary (Baden) Newcomer of Tarentum and his extended family from Johnstown including his sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Richard M. Newcomer.

Family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer, where parting prayer will be conducted Monday 9:30 AM with a Catholic Funeral Mass following in Transfiguration R.C. Church, Russellton with the Rev. James P. Holland and the Rev. Edward Schleicher, officiating. He will be laid to rest in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Township. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Transfiguration R.C.
