Walter J. Szolis, 91 of Baton Rouge, LA, formerly of Pittsburgh died peacefully at the Oschner Medical Center, Baton Rouge. He was born January 17, 1927 in Pittsburgh to the late John P. and Theresa (Huebner) Szolis. Walter last worked for the US Post office as a distribution clerk for over 25 years. He served his country during World War II in the US Army. He was of Catholic faith. He enjoyed his family, gardening and Holistic Health and talking with people.
Survivors include his children Diane A. (Dennis) Callahan of West Deer, Thomas (Ruth) Szolis of Lebanon, TN, Daniel (Penny) Szolis of Indianapolis, IN, Paul (Mary Ellen) Szolis of Mardela Springs, MD and James (Myong) Szolis of Baton Rouge, LA, 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ann (Tedrow) Szolis, daughters Karen A. Witte and Suzan E. Voegtly, brothers Chet, Raphael, Mike, Aloysius, Frank, Mitchell and Joseph and his sister Cecilia (Sr. Gabriell) Szolis.
At the family’s request all services were private. He was buried with full military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
