Arlene (Gray) Nury, 78 of Indiana Township, died Saturday August 20, 2022, with her family by her side, at The Willows of Presbyterian Senior Care in Oakmont. She was born December 15, 1943 in Pittsburgh to the late Harold R. and Clara K. (Eisele) Gray. Arlene grew up in West Deer graduating from West Deer High School in 1961. She was a former member of East Union Presbyterian Church, West Deer, serving as a deacon. Arlene worked as an administrative assistant for five years at Rust Engineering in Pittsburgh, and then 28 years at the Fox Chapel School District. She was the president of Circle R Safety in West Deer for 17 years.
She had a special skill of establishing and maintaining relationships with co-workers, especially at Fox Chapel School District. Her reputation of going above and beyond when caring for students and staff was well known.
Arlene put great pride into decorating and entertaining for the holidays, maintaining a beautiful flower garden at her home, and traveling the world. She shared ordinary and extraordinary events of her life with her best friend and husband, John. Their relationship reflected an unselfish dedication to one another. Later in life, Arlene had a habit of spoiling her five grandchildren and sending them home minutes before dinner with bellies full of Klondikes and jelly beans.
She was very proud of her tight knit family. Sunday afternoon gatherings around the dinner table were what she looked forward to most. She will always be remembered for her strong faith, lifelong loyal friendships and dedication to family.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years John R. Nury, her sons David J. (Lisa Ann) Nury of Indiana Township and Douglas G. (Elizabeth) Nury of Hampton, her grandchildren John “Jack”, Anna, Mia, Katherine, William and her brother William (Beth) Gray of Brooksville, Fla.
