Carl J. Unterholzner, 93 of West Deer Township, died Thursday January 22, 2026 at his home with his family by his side. He was born December 24, 1932 in Ambridge to the late John and Anna (Sommer) Unterholzner. Carl served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. After his discharge he went to work for the Port Authority, Allegheny County as a Bus Operator, working for them for over 29 years until he retired in 1994. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, attending St. Victor Church, West Deer. He was also a member of the Church Men’s Club and was a dedicated volunteer and officer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He also could be found volunteering at Concordia at Rebecca residence, West Deer. He enjoyed playing golf, yard work, cutting wood though especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his children Sue Ann Unterholzner at home, Karl J. Unterholzner, at home, Sharon C. Barnes of O’Hara Township and Paula S. (Michael) McMeans of Springdale, 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, Godchild Myra R. (Christopher) Bell, and his sister Eleanor (Robert) Ladesic of North Hills.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Patricia T. (Snead) Unterholzner who passed away on March 29, 2016.
Keeping with Carl’s wishes, all viewing services and burial were private. The family is planning a public Memorial mass in Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. Victor Church in the near future. Updates will be announced on the funeral home website as well as on the local social media pages.
