David M. Passarella, Jr.

David McClelland Passarella, Jr. 90 of West Deer Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 27, 2023 at UPMC – St. Margaret’s Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born January 25, 1933 in Apollo to the late David M. and Virginia (Matheny) Passarella. David grew up in Apollo and graduated from Apollo High School in 1950. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and returning he attended Indiana University. David worked as a Lab Technician at Gulf Research & Development, Harmarville, retiring from Chevron in 1997. He was a member of East Union Presbyterian Church, West Deer where he served as an Elder and Usher over the years. He enjoyed reading and following the Pittsburgh Steelers, had a keen interest in cars and a deep love for dogs of all shapes and sizes. Most of all, David loved his wife, children and grandchildren, as well as his beloved dog, Murphy.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Phyllis (Myers) Passarella, his daughters Susan (Martin) Maroni of Shaler and Karen Moore McAtee of Clinton Township, grandchildren Connor Maroni of Shadyside, Andrew Maroni of Vancouver, WA, Chad Moore of Cabot and Miranda Moore of Zelienople.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law Kevin P. McAtee on June 6, 2023.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Twp. Funeral service will be conducted Monday 11 am in East Union Presbyterian Church, 292 East Union Road, Cheswick, PA 15024 with the Rev. James C. Ramsey, officiating. He will be privately laid near his parents to rest in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to either the West Deer Dog Shelter, 1096 East Union Road, Cheswick, PA 15024 or East Union Presbyterian Church.
