Donald Salvatore Marotta, 86 of Sun City, FL, formerly of West Deer Township, died Friday February 23, 2024 just 59 days prior to the death of the love of his life, Mary Jane (Fox) Marotta. Don passed in Sun City Hospice Unit after a few months of being diagnosed with lung cancer. Don was a devoted husband, caring for his wife for over 5 years as she progressed through Alzheimer’s, until the previous few months when she needed to be placed into the Memory Care Unit in Freedom Plaza while he fought with his cancer diagnosis. He never missed a day from visiting and helping care for Mary Jane. He loved when family and friends would come to Florida to visit, always taking them and Mary Jane out to dinner at one of their favorite restaurants Bob Evans and sharing the blueberry waffles, which they both loved. He was born April 27, 1937 in Millvale to the late Nichola H. and Josephine (Marsico) Marotta. He grew up in Millvale and Glenshaw graduating from Shaler High School in 1956. Following high school, he attended a beauty/barber school earning his license as a barber/beautician and went to work in his father's barber shop. In 1960 he was drafted in to the US Army where he served in the US Army Reserves. He then met, the most beautiful lady, Mary Jane Fox, who he then married on April 4, 1964. Don worked for Sears as an appliance repairman for over 37 years. He also worked at the former Tom Henry Chevrolet, Bakerstown, where he fulfilled his love of corvette’s, owning and restoring many, even ordering, helping designing and owning his 1993 40-year Anniversary Edition Corvett. He kept and loved the certificate he received, when he drove to the plant and actually got to start his car the first time it was ever started. Throughout those years they lived in Glenshaw, Richland for 34 years, West Deer for 17 years, though the last few years they spent half the year in Sun City, FL, until they moved to Sun City permanently in 2017. While in Richland and West Deer, he was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, West Deer, the church Men’s Club and at the age of 74, while living in FL, went to Hillsboro Community College, FL to earn his EMT Certification. Once he earned his certification, he volunteered with the Sun City Ambulance, responding to the area emergencies. Don loved restoring corvettes, loved music, singing in a Barbar Shop Chorus, working with stained glass, melted glass art, even tried to teach himself to play the guitar.
Survivors included at the time of his passing, his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane (Fox) Marotta, who passed 59 days after his death, his sister Dolly Butler of Russellton and many nieces and nephews.
