Edward “Eddie” was born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Spring Hill. He attended North Catholic High School and was drafted into the Army immediately upon graduation. A proud veteran of the Cold War, he served on the front lines of history guarding the Berlin Wall. This early dedication to his country set the stage for a life defined by service, technical mastery, and a legendary ability to connect with others through storytelling.
Known as the best and most animated storyteller one could meet, he had a rare gift of bringing history and personal experiences to life. His love for reading and music fueled a sharp mind and a captivating personality that could command any room. He possessed a deep appreciation for mechanical beauty, spending countless hours restoring old cars to their former glory and building a specialized collection of antique firearms.
As an avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, boating, and camping. This connection to nature extended to a deep love for animals, a gentle side of his personality that was evident to everyone how knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of adventurous spirit, animated tales, a love for books and music, and a family who will cherish his memory.
He is survived by his son, Edward R. Mangold (Judy); his daughter, Tina M. Mangold (Josh Glick); and his ex-wife, Joyce Lawson. He also leaves behind his nephew, Keith G. Mangold, and sister-in-law, Jo Renton Lockmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward R. Mangold Sr. and Cyrilla R. Mangold; his brother, Keith L. Mangold; and his longtime companion, Alica “Lisa” Duncan.
Friends are welcome to a funeral mass on Saturday May 16, 2026 at 10AM, in Christ our Savior Parish, St. Boniface Church, 2208 East Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
