Elizabeth "Betty" Manz Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Manz, age 94, of Orange Park, Florida, formerly of Rural Ridge, Indiana Township, died in Critical Care at UF Health in Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday, June 16 from complications due to Myasthenia Gravis, an autoimmune disorder that affects the muscles. She was born March 14, 1928, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, to Lizzie and John Thomas Reid.  She attended Fort Pitt grade school in the Garfield section of Pittsburgh. She married Charles “Chuck” Manz on July 11, 1950, just days before he left for Korea in defense of that country.  She and Chuck had their only son, Louis, in 1952.  Betty and Chuck lived in Garfield until 1968, when they moved to Rural Ridge.  She worked as a waitress throughout her life, as family finances dictated.  She retired from Hoffstot’s in Oakmont in the early 1980’s. She and Chuck moved to Jupiter, Florida in 2013 to be closer to their son and extended family. Betty was involved with the Rosary Society at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Russellton, Pennsylvania and then with St. Peter Catholic Church in Jupiter, Florida, where she baked for the parish’s pancake breakfast each month.  She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow, dance, and play sports.  They were a tremendous joy in her life.

She is survived by her son Louis and daughter-in-law Therese Manz from Orange Park, FL. She leaves behind grandchildren Louis Manz, Jr. and wife Heather from Raleigh, NC, Jennifer and husband Ryan Theis of Muskego, WI, David Manz and wife Kristin from Franklin, TN, and Stephen Manz and wife Arielle from Jacksonville Beach, FL; great-grandchildren Madison, Grayson, Matthew, and Kellen Manz; Carter, Caleb, and Colby Theis, dozens of nieces, nephews whom many are her godchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, brothers Robert, Samuel, and William Reid and sister Dorothy Merz.

The family would like to thank friends for their prayers and support, and her doctors and staff for their care, warmth, and kindness during this time.

Friends will be received Friday from 6-8 pm in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer where parting prayers will be conducted Saturday 8:30 am with the funeral mass following in Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, Transfiguration Church, Campus at 9 am with the Rev.
