Ernest J. Fischer, Sr.

Ernest J. Fischer, Sr., 93 of West Deer Township, died Thursday January 27, 2022 at Magnolia Place of Saxonburg with his family by his side. He was born September 15, 1928 in the North Side to the late Peter and Pauline (Mueller) Fischer. Ernie has lived in West Deer most of his life, moving here when he was 7 years old. He served his country during the Korean War in the US Army achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of East Union Presbyterian Church, West Deer. Ernie was assigned to the 1092nd Engineer Combat Battalion, where he helped build bridges, working with the Army Corps of Engineers in Imajin River. He worked as a union carpenter though the Carpenters Union Local 432 in Pittsburgh. Ernie also was a draftsman and designed many houses in West Deer, working for Mr. Prato and Roger Catanese. He enjoyed hunting, traveling to Germany and Calif. to visit family members, bird watching and especially loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children Deborah L. Vojtko of Richland Township, Diane L. (David) Brudy of Adams Township, Ernest J. (Vanessa) Fischer, Jr. of Frazer Township, Donna L. (Dennis) Abbott of Indiana Township and Gary J. (Deborah) Fischer of Saxonburg, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and his brother Joseph (Nancy) Fischer of Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Charlane F. (Stepp) Fischer on November 9, 2016 and his sisters Louise Evans and Joanne Heslet.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township. At Ernie’s request, a private family service will be conducted in the funeral home, with the Rev. James C. Ramsey, officiating.
