Florence Smith Obituary

Florence Susan (Hotkowski) Smith of West Deer Township, formerly of Arnold, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning after a short illness with her family and beloved dog by her side. Florence was a bookkeeper and office manager at First United Presbyterian Church of Tarentum, for many years. Florence enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, watching classic movies, and she never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune. She loved sitting on her back porch in the sun and spending time with her family. You would always find her cooking in the kitchen and never left her house with an empty stomach or empty handed. We really struggled to write this obituary because one cannot describe on paper or in words how selfless our Nanny was.

Florence is survived by her children Linda (Scott), Marlin, Scott (Valerie) Smith, Beverly (Danny) Bowser, grandchildren Kelly (Joe), Ellena-Gizzi, Sara De Meio-Cortner, Scott (Kelly) Bowser, Matthew (Courtney) Bowser, Taylor and Brady Smith, great grandchildren Lexi, Aiden, and Brooklyn Cortner, Aubrie and Kloe Bowser, and JoJo Gizzi.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gary M. Smith, parents John and Josephine Hotkowski and several brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.

Per Florence’s request a family viewing was held and the services and burial were private. Arrangements were entrusted to the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer. A Celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers please send contributions in her name to either St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at https://www.stjude.org/donate, or to the ASPCA at www.aspca.org.  View obituary online and leave condolences at www.siwicki-yanickofh.com
