Gary Smith Obituary

Gary M. Smith, 85 of Blanchard, West Deer Township, died peacefully, Monday August 1, 2022 at Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot. He was born April 25, 1937 in Oakridge, Armstrong County to the late Michael F. and Helen F. (Shumaker) Smith. Gary moved to New Kensington as a young boy and graduated from New Kensington High School. He has lived in West Deer for the past 60 years. Gary was an A-1 Blacksmith for the former Edgewater Steel in Oakmont working there over 33 years. He was a 32nd degree Shriner and member of the Verona Masonic Lodge and the Syria Shrine. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved his garden, animals, sitting on his front porch and fixing the neighborhood kids bicycles, though mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years Florence S. (Hotkowski) Smith, children Linda (Scott) Marlin of Russellton, Scott (Valerie) Smith of Hampton and Beverly (Danny) Bowser of Allegheny Township; grandchildren Kelly (Joe) Ellena/Gizzi, Sara (Shawn) Cortner, Taylor Smith, Brady Smith, Scott (Kelly) Bowser and Matthew (Courtney) Bowser; great-grandchildren Lexi, Aiden, Brooklyn, Aubrie, Kloe and Joe, Jr., sister Judith (Steve) Schreckengost of New Castle and his brother Edward L. Smith of Sarver.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Richard Smith and his sister Linda Lou Smith.

At Gary’s request all viewing, services and burial were private. Arrangements were entrusted to the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer. A Celebration of his life will be held for his family and friends in the near future.
