George “Rocky” Rukavina, 87, passed away June 30th 2023 surrounded by his family. George was born September 14th 1935 in Rural Ridge to Thomas Rukavina and Julia (Shematovich) Rukavina, as well as his siblings Tom and Rosalie. George has lived most of his life in the West Deer community where he married his High School sweetheart, Eleanor Tabacchi in 1957. During that time, he could be found driving his pink 1955 Dodge Royal Lancer convertible. George was drafted by the US Army, serving two years before honorable discharge in 1964. George then worked at Southwest/Witco/Exxon Oil & Grease in Bakerstown for over 40 years before retiring. He built a new house across the street from the old one on Bairdford Road, where music (mostly polkas) were always heard. George kept busy; maintaining beautiful landscaping in the yard with his wife, followed closely by a nap in his recliner. George also had a strong passion for softball, which he played into his late 70s, including playing in the 2005 Senior Softball Olympics. Above all, “Pap” was the title he was most proud of.
He is survived by his Wife of 66 years, Eleanor C. (Tabacchi) Rukavina. As well as his two sons, George (Phyllis) Rukavina and Ron (Gina) Rukavina; as well as his four grandchildren, Georgie, Stephanie, Michael, Joseph; who he loved so much.
At his family’s request all services and burial were private. Arrangements were entrusted to the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Twp. View obituary online and leave condolences at www.siwicki-yanickofh.com.
