Gertrude Lorraine (Wilson) Rush

Gertrude L. (Wilson) Rush, 83 of Richland Township, died Wednesday November 8, 2023 at her home. She was born July 10, 1940 in Pittsburgh to the late Samuel J. and Mildred (Hunkele) Wilson. Gertrude grew up in Pittsburgh graduating from Oliver High School in 1958. She has lived in the Pittsburgh area most of her life and also lived in Florida for 20 years. Gertrude worked in sale at various companies for over 15 years and as a private duty caregiver in Florida for 20 years. She loved to dance, had a great sense of humor, enjoyed driving to different places to visit and volunteered at several area food banks.

Survivors include her children Eva Marie (Anthony) Melvin-Sarazen, with whom she lived, Denise A. Melvin of Pittsburgh, Tina Marie (Rubin) Velez of Sheffield, AL and Brian J. (Priscilla) Nichols of Pompano Beach, FL, grandchildren Tara (Steven) Longenbach of Los Angeles, CA, Shane Sarazen of Richland Township, Adam Miller, Aurora, IL, Julian Velez and Christian Velez both of Sheffield, AL, Brian J. Nichols, Jr. and Sophia Nichols of Pompano Beach, FL, her sisters Barbara Carpico of Clairton and Lois Liptak of Hilton Head, SC.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her granddaughter Ashley Sarazen and her sisters Harriet Wilson, Mary Lou Bozik and Catherine Schreier.

At Gertrude’s request all viewing and service are private. She was also privately buried in Christ the Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, Northside. Arrangements were entrusted to the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Northway Christian Community Food Bank, 12121 Perry Highway, Wexford, PA 15090, in her name.
