J. Joyce Skurka

J. Joyce Skurka, 78 formerly of Russellton, West Deer Township, died Saturday November 16, 2024 at the Kensington Care Center, Aurora, OH. She was born February 24, 1946 in West Deer to the late Fred E. and Josephine (Godlewski) Skurka, Sr.  Joyce grew up in West Deer, graduating from West Deer High School in 1964 and attending Allegheny Community College and Penn State Harrisburg campus afterwards for several years. Joyce enjoyed antique collecting, writing, and crossword puzzles, though she enjoyed spending time with her family the most.

Survivors include her daughter April J. (Matthew J. Kuehnle) Skurka of Solon, OH, her grandson Emory M.S. Butcheck and her siblings Joan Wood of West Deer and Fred. E. (Linda) Skurka, Jr. of Butler.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Regina Nesbitt, Connie Zak and Patricia Skantzos.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 2-4 pm in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer, where a blessing service will be conducted at 4 pm with the Rev. Frederick L. Cain, officiating.  She will be privately laid to rest with her parents in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent the West Deer Dog Shelter, 109, East Union Road, Cheswick, PA 15024 in her name.
