James Cavanaugh Obituary

James E. Cavanaugh, 96 of West Deer Township, died Saturday August 28, 2021 at Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot. He was born July 3, 1925 in Pittsburgh to the late John A. and Mathilda V. (Patricks) Cavanaugh. Jim was a 1943 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He served his country during WWII in the US Army as a Staff Sargent and was stationed in Italy for 2 years. When he returned from the war, he went to work for the Pittsburgh Press working for over 43 years as the time keeper for the drivers. Jim has lived in West Deer for the past 21 years, prior to that he lived in Shaler. Jim was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, West Deer, the Knights of Columbus Council 5501, Russellton, the 4th Degree K of C – Queen of Angles Council, Wexford. He enjoyed wood working, though he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years Helen M. (Madine) Cavanaugh, his children James T. (Susan) Cavanaugh of Butler; Catherine A. Shine of New Derry; Amy P. (Anthony) Wall of Hampton and Eileen M. (Vincent) Marchese of Delaware, OH, 9 grandchildren, Dana (Ryan) Kozesky and Jaci (Josh) Bergdahl both of Middlesex; Kimberly (Joseph) McCluskey of Cheswick, Andrew (Jennifer) Marchese of Oswego, IL; Erin (Doug) Gibbon of Delaware, OH; Stacy Marchese of Delaware, OH; Michael (Trea) O’Malley of Ridgefield, CT; Jason (Kate) O’Malley of Larkspur, CA and Timothy O’Malley and his fiancé Tayler Cabalka of Steamboat Springs, CO, great-grandchildren Kelley, Samantha, Ethan, Noah, Wyatt, Sadie, Katie, Jacob, Dean, Alexandra, Eliza, Jack, Sean and Grace; and his brother Robert Cavanaugh of Moon Township.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his 1st wife Jacqueline (Cribins) Cavanaugh and his siblings Dorothy Knorr and John “Jack Cavanaugh

Friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer. Catholic funeral mass will be conducted Monday in Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. Victor Church, 10 am with the Rev. James P. Holland, officiating.
