James B. McKrell, Jr. 89 of Richland, formerly of Russellton, West Deer Township, died Friday December 25, 2020 at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Richland. He was born January 14, 1931 in Natrona Heights to the late James B. and Frances V. (Campbell) McKrell, Sr. Jim grew up and had lived in West Deer most of his life graduating from West Deer in 1949. He then went on to Wheaton College to get is Bachelors Degree. While at Wheaton College he played football. After college he was drafted into the NFL, by the LA Rams. At the same time, he was drafted into the US Army serving his country in Korea. When he returned from the war, he went to work as a salesman for J.S. McCormick Steel. He also went on to work as a salesman for Zimmer Orthopedic and Howmedica Orthopedics. Jim was active in the churches he attended serving as an Elder and Deacon. He enjoyed gardening, farming, reading, though loved his family most.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years Nancy J. (Mawhinney) McKrell, his sons Jonathan D. (Carla) McKrell, M.D. of Monaca and Mark D. (Jennifer) McKrell of Webster, NY, grandchildren Daniel (Amanda), Melissa, Aaron, Matthew (Erin), Timothy, Katie and Christopher McKrell.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Judith L. McKrell and his brother John H. McKrell.
At the family’s request all services were private. A public memorial service will be scheduled as soon as the restrictions are lifted. He will be privately buried near his parents, brother and daughter in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana Township.
