Joan F. (Skurka) Wood

Joan F. (Skurka) Wood, 89, of West Deer Township, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 18th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 1, 1936 to the late Fred and Josephine (Godlewski) Skurka.

Joan was active her whole life. Even as she aged it was hard for her not to work outside in the yard planting flowers and tidying up. And she loved her puzzles! There was always a puzzle in some form of progress on her puzzle table. She was an avid bowler until she was 85 and always wanted to beat the “younger” women in her bowling league. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and British murder mysteries. Joan enjoyed shopping, too, either online or in a store. She loved hosting holiday events, and her potato salad was the best! She also enjoyed one last trip to the beach this year! Above all, Joan was loving and kind. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was very proud of her sons and grandchildren. She was always there for her four sons offering comfort, advice, and an ear to listen. She always provided a soft place to land when her sons needed one. She loved her boys. And they loved her.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, Samuel, son, Aaron, sisters, Patty, Connie, Joyce and Jeanie. Surviving are her four sons: Samuel (Monica) Wood, Jr. of Sarver, Douglas (Kathy) Wood of Butler, Roger (Wendy) Wood of West Deer, and Daryl Wood of West Deer; her seven grandchildren, Allyson (Jamison) Dohn, Harrison, Kevin (Kara), Kory (Amy), Ryan (Megan), Dylan, and Evan. As well as her brother, Fred (Linda) Skurka.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer, where a Blessing service will be conducted Wednesday 10 am, with the Rev. James P. Holland, officiating. She will be laid to rest in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Township.
