Obituary

John "Jack" Paul Uriah, 86 of Sarasota, FL, formerly of West Deer Township, died March 7, 2023 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, FL with his family by his side. He was born February 15, 1937 in Bridgeville to the late James and Katherine C. (Witzel) Uriah. John grew up in the Bridgeville area graduating from Bridgeville High School in 1956. Following High School, he went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton in Education. He was drafted in 1961 and went to Fort Jackson, SC for basic training; then to Fort Gordon, GA for MP (military police) school; then to Fort Hood, TX where he served for 19 months as an MP at Killeen Army Base, TX. His teaching career spanned 35 years teaching at 3 different High Schools and retired from Deer Lakes High School as Phys Ed and Health teacher. While he was teaching, he coached basketball for 21 yrs. He also served as the Athletic Director at Deer Lakes 17 yrs. After retirement continued to coach basketball 12 years at Shadyside Academy Fox Chapel, PA. John was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, West Deer, the PA State Athletic Directors Association, the PA State Education Association and the District 7 Athletic Directors Association. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf, although his absolute favorite were the family get-togethers.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years Mary Pauline Yanicko (Cenk) Uriah, his son James M. (Monica) Uriah of Bath, PA, Daniel R. (Cynthia) Yanicko, M.D. of Somerset, KY, Thomas M. (Karen) Yanicko of Denver, NC, William A. (Gail) Yanicko of Russellton, PA, Michael A. Yanicko of West Deer, PA and Marianne (Carl) DelloStritto of Sarasota, FL, grandchildren Alan Street, Adam (Kendra) Street, Mark Street, Arthur Street, Nancy Kate Street, Heath M. (Sara) Yanicko, D.O., Tory A. (Michael) Lafuente, M.D., Casey M. Yanicko, Lucasz E. Yanicko, Lech D. Yanicko, William D. Yanicko, Ryan (Meghan) Yanicko, Kimberly D. Yanicko, Daniel J. (Jessica) DelloStritto, M.D., Christina L. Yanicko, Alisha M. DelloStritto, and Teresa A. Yanicko great-grandchildren, Phoenix M. Yanicko, Destiny D. Yanicko, Dreux A. Yanicko, Novah Lou C. Yanicko, Michael C. Lafuente, Mia T. Lafuente, Grayson C. DelloStritto, Peyton E. Yanicko, Stevie J. Yanicko, Adalynn T. Yanicko, Olivia T. Yanicko and Bennett J. DelloStritto, his brothers Gerald J. Uriah of Carneige, PA and Michael E. (Karen) Uriah of Houston, PA. and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy Carmella (DellaVecchia) Uriah on May 29, 1990, his daughter Susan M. (Uriah) Street on March 13, 2015 and sister Virginia (Uriah) Bowland.

At John’s request all viewing, services and burial will be private. Arrangements were entrusted to the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer.
