Joseph W. Semler, 96 of West Deer Township, died Friday February 11, 2022. He was born May 26, 1925 in McKees Rocks to the late Joseph F. and Cyrilla “Lill” (Lorch) Semler. Joe grew up in McKees Rocks graduating from McKees Rocks High School in 1943. After high school, he served his country during WWII in the US Coast Guard achieving the rank of Electronics Tech’s Mate 3rd Class. After returning from his military service, he began his life long career as a carpenter, initially working for his father’s company, Semler Construction, and after it closed spent the final 20 years at St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh. Joe was a 47-year member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Parish, Hampton and then transferred his membership to Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, West Deer, where he has been a member for the past 23 years. He was also a member of OLLP Young and Restless group, Hampton AARP and the West Deer Senior Center. Joe enjoyed hunting, wood working, crafts, though he mostly enjoyed spending time with his wife, who he has missed dearly since her passing and his family.
Survivors include his children Sharon A. Roginski of West Deer and Daniel J. (Wendy) Semler of Shaler, grandchildren Mark (Danielle) Roginski of West Deer, Matthew Semler of Calif., Danielle Semler of Summerville, SC and Beth (Von) Ferber of Frazer, great-grandchildren Charlotte, Von, Kenzie, Roman and Sophie, and his brothers Harry (Ann) Semler of Guy’s Mills and Rev. Albert Semler of Pittsburgh.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Gloria J. (DeJohn) Semler, his brothers Edward and Michael Semler, his sisters Ruth McMaster, Grace Habay and Betty Jean Thiele and his son-in-law Charles Roginski
At Joe’s request viewing, services and burial were private. Arrangements were entrusted to the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township.
