Louis A. Vidic

Louis A. Vidic, 89, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026 in UPMC St. Margaret’s Hospital.  He passed peacefully, surrounded by his entire family.  Lou was the first son of Louis and Josephine (Czaplicki) Vidic of Russellton, PA., born on June 13, 1937. Lou was a 1955 graduate of West Deer High School, where he was class President, and played football and basketball.  He continued playing football at Brandeis University in Massachusetts, graduating in 1959 (BA), Pratt Institute School of Architecture (City Planning) in 1962, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Public and International Affairs in 1974. For 25 years, he was Executive Director of Southwestern Pennsylvania Economic Development District in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Chairman of Allegheny County Industrial Development Authority. He organized and was a Charter member of the National Incubator Association. Prior to 1966, he also held positions with the New York City Planning Dept., Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, Allegheny and Armstrong Counties in Pennsylvania. In his retirement, he enjoyed time with his grandchildren---Christopher, Luke, Josie, Vanessa, Cassie, William and Jacob.  He enjoyed going to their softball and soccer games.  He also looked forward to weekly lunch outings with old friends. He was an avid Steelers fan, and also enjoyed watching the Pirates and Penguins.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan and also three sons:  Matthew (Diane) of State College, Stephen (Valerie) of Hampton, and Paul (Heather) of West Mifflin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers:  Donald (Jane) and David (Kathleen)

Lou was a life-long member of Transfiguration Church (Our Lady of the Lakes Parish).  For 13 years, he coached Transfiguration School’s Basketball team.

At Lou’s request all viewing, funeral mass and burial were private.  Arrangements were entrusted to the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Twp.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent in his name to Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, PO Box 149, Bairdford, PA 15076.
