Michael Joseph Hilla, Sr., 81, of Bairdford, West Deer Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the home of his daughter, with his family by his side. Mike was born on November 25, 1943, in Bairdford, where he lived his entire life. He was a 1960 graduate of West Deer High School. From a young age, he built a strong work ethic learning the trade of bricklayer while working for Marco Ellena. He later became a heavy machine and crane operator for IMM Inc. as they dismantled steel mills across the Pittsburgh area and beyond. When that work came to an end, Mike transitioned to a career as a machinist at Pittsburgh Plug, where he remained until his retirement. Whether it was hunting, fishing, golfing, or bowling, he cherished time spent with family and friends, always making the most of every moment. Mike was a man who loved his family deeply and would do anything for them. Known for his generosity, he was always ready to lend a hand and help others in any way he could. He found peace and joy at his camp on the lake in Erie, where he created countless memories with those he loved.
Above all, Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his children, Michael Joseph Hilla, Jr. of West Deer Township and Marcy L. (Glenn) Klaas of Indiana Township; his grandchildren, Benjamin A. (Caitlin) Klaas, Joseph A. (Alison) Klaas, Rebecca L. Klaas, and Michael Joseph Hilla III; and his sister, Joanne Margaret Martinez of Pine Township. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and his unwavering support and love will remain with them always.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Marlene M. (Trischler) Hilla.
