Thomas E. Tominac, 89 of Ross Township, in Pittsburgh, PA died on Friday, September 22, 2023 at UPMC Passavant Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on May 7, 1934 in Forest City, PA to the late Matthew and Anna (Yukovich) Tominac. Tom grew up in Rural Ridge, PA graduating from West Deer High School in 1955. He served his country in US Army Intelligence division because he was gifted at mathematics. Tom later received an accounting degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked for PPG Industries as an Accounting and Auditing Executive, a loyal employee for 43 years.
Tom was a member of St. Sebastian R.C. Church though he attended St. Nicholas R.C. Church as well. He was an active member of the Corinthian Lodge #573, North Hills. Tom competed in the Pittsburgh Senior Olympics winning 9 medals. He loved telling jokes and was obsessed with sports, especially tennis.
Tom was well known as a kind, cheerful and humorous guy who adored his wife Mara, children and grandchild. An exemplary, loyal, hardworking man, Tom was a gift from God and a hero to his family. No matter what job you gave him to do, he was happy. Mara left her family and home country of Croatia and came to the United States to marry him just two months after meeting. Tom said it was love at first sight. Nicknamed, “The Mayor of Ross Township,” Tom was loved by all. Because he loved everybody. Everywhere you went, people asked, “Where’s Tom?”
His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchild Ella, to whom he was like a father. Tom attended all of Ella’s school and sporting events and practices. He proudly watched Ella graduate from Sewickley Academy and start college this Fall at his alma mater, University of Pittsburgh. Tom bought Ella a Pitt teddy bear with a graduation gown and cap, envisioning future academic success.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Mara J. (Biondic) Tominac, his children Thomas A. Tominac of Boston, MA and Nikki (Ninette) K. Tominac, his grandchild Ella M. Tominac-Ural, and his sister Olga Vidmar of Pittsburgh, PA in the North Hills. Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother Frank M.
