William John Petitto

William John Petitto, DDS, 94 of Oakmont, died Thursday May 8, 2025 at his home, with his family by his side. He was born June 6, 1930 in Dunmore to the late Angelo and Gertrude (Falzone) Petitto. Dr. Petitto grew up in Dunmore graduating from Dunmore High School in 1948. He then received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1952 from the University of Scranton. Dr. Petitto then went on to the University of Pittsburgh to receive his DDS in 1957. Following his graduation, he continued his education by taking a one-year fellowship in Oral Surgery at South Side Hospital under W. Henry Archer, M.D. who published the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery text book. Dr. Petitto began his practice in Russellton, West Deer in 1958 where he helped many of the local families for over 58 years. He was a member Holy Family Parish, attending St. Irenaeus Church, Oakmont, a member of the American Dental Society, the Pittsburgh Otology Society. While he practiced in Russellton, he was the school dentist for many years seeing all the students yearly for a dental check-up. Dr. Petitto served for one year as the Dental Staff President for Allegheny Valley Hospital, where he operated many years as a staff Dental Surgeon. He loved flying airplanes, with his late wife and also held his own aviation license and enjoyed golf.

Survivors his sons Gary (Karen) Petitto of Cheswick, and Mark Petitto at home; three grandchildren, Angela (Nicholas) Monzo of Hampton, Melissa (Andrew) Petitto-Kenny of Swisshelm Park and Johnathan Petitto of New Kensington, great-grandchildren William and Benjamin, his brother-in-law Joseph (Rose) Bondi of Philadelphia.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Anne (Bondi) Petitto who died January 11, 2016 and his siblings, including his 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Keeping with Dr. Petitto’s request there will be no public viewing. All are welcome to attend his Christian Funeral Mass Wednesday May 14, 2025 at 10:30 am in Holy Family Parish, St. Irenaeus Church, 387 Maryland Avenue, Oakmont PA, 15139.  Arrangements were entrusted to the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township. He will be laid to rest privately beside his wife in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar. Memorial contributions may be sent, in his name, to the St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o St. Irenaeus Parish.
