Anthony T. “Doc” Hladney, 94 of Russellton, West Deer Township, passed peacefully December 17, 2016. Born October 17, 1922 in New Kensington to the late Justin and Agatha (Kmierick) Hladney. Doc has lived in the Russellton area for almost 75 years. He served his country during WWII in the US Army as a Tech Corporal His tours of duty took him to Rhineland, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and the Ardennes. He actually served in the Battle of the Bulge. While in the service he received a Bronze Arrowhead, Three Overseas Service Bars and the EAME Campaign Ribbon with One Silver Star. He was a member of Transfiguration R.C. Church, Russellton, the American Legion, West Deer, the VFW, the DAV, Rural Ridge and a member the Knights of Columbus #5501. He worked at Union Spring and Manufacturing in New Kensington for almost 50 years as a spring maker. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, gardening, feeding the birds, eating at Grieco’s Carefree Inn and especially spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughters Edith (Dennis) Gentile of Lower Burrell, Elaine Riegner of Venango and Judith (Larry) Hearn of Alpharetta, GA, his grandchildren April, Kelley, Ryan and Katie, his great-grandson Conrad and his sister Theresa Groncki of New Kensington.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Gloria E. (Cesarino) Hladney in 2013, his brothers Steve, Joseph, Edward and Alex and his sisters Marie Kiesling, Verna Goodiski, Anna Wroblewski and Helen Hladney.

Family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Twp., A private funeral mass will be held at Transfiguration R.C. Church, Russellton. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, with full military honors, in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to Transfiguration R.C.
