Francis Lyker, Jr Obituary

Francis “Frank” Albert Lyker, Jr., 70, of West Deer Township, passed from this life to the next on Saturday April 6, 2024, at UPMC Shadyside after a valiant fight with Leukemia.  He was born Sunday August 16, 1953 in Pittsburgh to the late Francis A. Lyker and Ferna J. (Malarky) Lyker McDonough. Frank was known to a select few as “Captain Zero” when in rare form, was an amazing husband, father, grandfather (pap-pap), brother, and son. Professionally he was a hydraulic engineer for SunSource for over 20 years, but also excelled as a musician and dabbled in administering excellent advice. If you stopped by on any given evening, you might hear him and the Bridge 447 band filling the air with music.

Frank had an amazing appetite for life and a love for people. No one was a stranger, and friends and family knew the sound of his laughter and love. He wouldn’t hesitate to lend a helping hand or to crack a joke, his contagious laugh filling a room. The joy he brought to those around him is unmatched and if you were lucky enough to meet him, he certainly left a lasting memory that would bring a smile to your face.

He absolutely loved being a father and even more, a pap-pap. His grandchildren brought him so much joy and happiness. As a Trekkie, he wouldn’t hesitate to wish those around him a sincere “live long and prosper.” In the summertime, he loved to spend time on the river in his boat with his best first mate by his side, Roxann.

Although his family will miss him dearly, the memories, laughter, jokes, and expert advice will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Roxann L. (Bell) Lyker, his son Daniel F. (Jennifer) Lyker of Mars, his daughter Lucy Katherine “Kate” (Tara Barrett) Lyker of Savanna, GA, his grandchildren Maggie, Audrey, and Zachary, his siblings; Robert Lyker of Carnegie, Edward “Eddie” (Christie) McDonough of Harmony, Thomas (Sherry) McDonough of Carnegie, Nancy (David) Pokorski of Chalk Hill, PA and David McDonough of Carnegie.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret M. (Millican) Lyker and his sister Lori McCartney.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 4-8 PM in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township. His burial will be private with his immediate family in attendance. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, 600 River Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
