Frank D. Barnes, Sr. of Pella, IA, formerly of Economy entered glory on January 17, 2018. He was born May 18, 1936 in the family farmhouse near Leeper to the late Robert R. and Martha (Jones) Barnes, Sr., He lived several years in Neville Island before returning to the family farm in Leeper, where he graduated from North Clarion High School in 1955. He entered the US Navy in 1956, serving aboard the USS Bennington. Frank worked at J & L Steel as a crane man and electrician before becoming an electrician with the IBEW, Local 712 retiring in 1998. After retirement he filled his time helping friends and family, camping with Loretta, and hunting at every opportunity. He deeply enjoyed meeting new people and learning about new things. He also was committed to the work of the Gideons, delighting in the calling to distribute God’s Word broadly. He cherished his church families at Economy United Methodist Church, Fairmount Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, and Covenant United Reformed Church in Pella, IA. Frank delighted in designing and building things out of metal and wood. Through hours of work in his garage, he fabricated everything from a log turner for his campfires to a trailer and even an overhead crane. In 2013, Frank and Loretta moved to Pella, IA, there they cherished time spent with grandchildren and friends, right up until the day when the Lord called His servant home.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta H. (Pennington) Barnes, his sons, Frank D. (Sandy) Barnes Jr. of New Galilee, and Douglas B. (Grace) Barnes of Pella, IA, grandchildren William (Erin) Sphar, Megan Barnes, Michal Barnes, Samuel Barnes, Luke Barnes, Jacob Barnes, Joanna Barnes, Jesse Barnes, great-grandchildren Akira and Billy; brother Robert R. Barnes, Jr.; sister Martha Conticello; sister-in-law Arlene McCullough; brother-in-law Kermit Brosius; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ellen Brosius; brothers-in-law Leonard Conticello and Lorraine “Mac” McCullough; and sister-in-law Dorothy Barnes.
Family will receive friends Tuesday January 23, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer. Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 24, 2018 10 a.m. in the Bairdford United Methodist Church, Bairdford Road, Bairdford, West Deer Township with the Rev. Jerry Pawloski, officiating.
