G. Richard Olar, 81 of West Deer Township, passed away Wednesday March 13, 2024. He was born July 29, 1942 in Russellton to the late George and Mary (Hrabb) Olar. Rich grew up in Russellton and was a member of the West Deer High School class of 1960. He served his country in the US Army. He returned to Russellton to help care for his father who was injured in the coal mine. Rich worked as coal miner for over 20 years himself and then for Deer Lakes School District as a maintenance worker for an additional 20 years. After retirement, Rich volunteered at the Tour-Ed Mine as a tour guide for many years. He was a life member and past president of the Owls Club, Russellton, member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 593, West Deer, and was a member of various other clubs. Rich enjoyed hunting, fishing, play euchre and gardening.
Rich is survived by his daughters Renae Craft of Buffalo Township, Pamela (Richard) Brazer of West Deer and Georjean (Michael) Englert of Verona and his grandson Ryan (Karla) Sadecky and great-grandchildren Jacob and Abby.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Joseph R Olar on September 19, 2023.
At Rich’s request all viewing, services were private. He was buried with full military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
